In their words
I have sat on the other side of the table. I have read the applications and watched perfectly capable people get turned down for reasons that had nothing to do with whether they would make good nurses.
Usually it is one of three things: a score that missed a programme-specific minimum nobody told them about, a personal statement that described enthusiasm rather than evidence, or applying to four programmes that all wanted the same thing they did not have.
What I am useful for
Choosing where to apply and understanding what each programme actually weights. Reading a draft application honestly. And mentoring — regular check-ins if you are studying around shifts and need someone who will notice when you go quiet.
I tutor Reading and English as well. They are the sections people assume they will be fine at, which is exactly why they under-prepare.
How I work
Video only, and usually early or late — I am on the wards during the day and I would rather meet you at 6am than cancel on you. If you are working shifts too, that tends to suit both of us.
